  • The Datto RMM Agent is a lightweight software program installed on a device that supports agent installation. The Agent gathers up-to-date information about the device's health and status and communicates it to the platform. The Agent can be used to proactively monitor a device, deploy patches and policies, create alerts and tickets, execute scripts, run jobs, or even enable a connection to the device via the Agent Browser or Web Remote.

  • A security measure in which a unique encryption key is generated for every Datto RMM Agent installation to ensure that when an Agent is communicating with the platform, it is confirmed that traffic is coming from the device where the Agent was originally installed and no impersonation is taking place.
  • An automatic notification that is triggered if a device is operating outside of the parameters defined in a monitor.
  • Should a monitor threshold be surpassed, alert responses allow you to automatically trigger functions such as sending an email, running a component, and so forth.
  • The allowlist is a list of IP addresses or domains that are provided privileged access. It is the opposite of a blocklist, which is intended to block or restrict access.
  • Acronym for application programming interface. Datto provides an API to enable programmatic access to information and operations available in Datto RMM.
  • An inventory of the hardware, software, services, change log, and activity log of a device as taken by the Datto RMM Agent. The data is stored on the device and sent back to the platform to be added to the device record in the web interface. A full audit is a complete audit of the device taken after the Agent is installed. A full audit can also be initiated by manually.mA delta audit is a list of the changes to the audit information on the device since the last audit.
  • In standalone ticketing, auto-resolution is the process to auto-resolve any alerts raised by monitors. The purpose of this is to save the Administrator the task of having to manually check each and every alert and resolving them individually.
  • Branding is part of the Datto RMM setup. It allows you to add custom branding to your Datto RMM account, including the web interface, the Agent and the Agent Browser, and the end user support request form.

  • See Device.
  • A designation for components that makes them available for Quick Jobs. You can also mark a device as a favorite.
  • Filters are tools for targeting devices based on device attributes. As device attributes change, the filters will automatically be updated and all the devices that match the filter criteria will be displayed in the filter results. Filters are dynamic and work independently of sites.
  • The highest level of hierarchy for managing devices in Datto RMM. Items configured at the Global level are available for all sites and devices.
  • Groups are tools for targeting devices and sites where you cannot or choose not to use filters. Unlike filters, groups are static, which means that adding or removing devices or sites to or from groups is a manual activity that is carried out in the Web Portal.
  • (Old: UID) Identifier. Sites get a unique site ID and devices get a unique device ID when they are added to your Datto RMM account. IDs cannot be changed or updated.
  • Datto RMM integrates with a number of other Datto products, as well as third-party applications.
  • An automated process for deploying components to a number of devices, either immediately or at a scheduled time.
  • One of the Agent deployment options. If one of the devices on the LAN has an Agent installed, the deployment to the remaining devices can be initiated from the Agent Browser or the web interface. This method should only be used if Active Directory deployment is not an option.
  • The initial license limit is set when you begin using Datto RMM; however, you can add additional managed device and, for example, Ransomware Detection licenses.

  • A process in which a Network Node device discovers devices on a network. The discovered devices can then be enrolled and monitored by the Network Node.
  • Object Identifier
  • An OnDemand site is a type of site that allows you to deploy an OnDemand Agent. The OnDemand Agent has limited access to Datto RMM features and enforces end user permission in order for remote takeover.
  • One-Time Password
  • A patch is a piece of software designed to update a computer program or its supporting data to fix or improve it. This includes fixing security vulnerabilities, bugs, and improving usability or performance.
  • Datto RMM Patch Management allows you to both control and automate the deployment of software patches to your devices to create an environment that is secure against known vulnerabilities in operating system and application software. Patch Management is controlled through policies at the global and site level, while individual patch installations can be configured at the device level.
  • The physical location where your instance of the Datto RMM cloud application is hosted. The platforms Pinotage and Merlot serve Europe, Concord, Zinfandel, and Vidal serve the US, and Syrah serves the Asia-Pacific region.
  • A policy is a tool for bulk operations in Datto RMM. With a policy you can define something you want to do (configure a setting, run a monitor, install a patch or an update), define target devices using sites, filters, and groups, or push changes immediately or at a predetermined time.
  • Acronym for Professional Services Automation. Autotask refers to the cloud-based PSA application designed to assist IT consultants and other professionals with project management and resource management for client projects. Main features include CRM, Service Desk, Contracts and Billing, Projects and Time Tracking.
  • A quick job allows you to immediately deploy one component without having to schedule the job. Similarly to scheduled jobs, quick jobs can be run against individual devices, sites, filters, or groups.
  • A security measure that monitors for the existence of crypto-ransomware on devices using proprietary behavioral analysis of files, and alerts you when a device is infected. Once ransomware is detected, Datto RMM can isolate the device and attempt to stop suspected ransomware processes to prevent the ransomware from spreading.
  • Remote Desktop Protocol. A remote screen viewer supported by Datto RMM.
  • A program or sequence of instructions that is interpreted or carried out by another program rather than by the computer processor (as a compiled program is). Scripts automate the execution of tasks that could alternatively be executed one-by-one by a human operator.
  • A component and monitoring policy set intended to pinpoint common security concerns on Windows devices. These concerns are raised both in the StdOut from the component and within the Windows Event Log. This information can then be caught by the monitoring policy. If you are linking into a PSA solution, workflow rules can also be applied to tickets.
