Installing or uninstalling the Windows Agent

PERMISSIONS  Administrator

NAVIGATION  Devices > All > Add Device > enter a site name > select a site > Windows

NAVIGATION  Sites > All Sites > click the name of a site > Add Device > Windows

IMPORTANT  For information about supported Windows versions, refer to Supported operating systems and Agent requirements. For information about which services get installed, refer to Services, dependencies, and folders (Windows, macOS, Linux).

How to...

  1. Download the Datto RMM Agent installer. Refer to the steps outlined in Downloading the Agent or sharing the Agent installer.

    2. NOTE  For information about manually enrolling other types of devices, refer to Adding a device.

  2. Open the downloaded or emailed installer executable and run it to install the Datto RMM Agent. The installer is silent, so you will not see any progress bar or indicator. Once the Agent has been installed, the Datto RMM icon is displayed in the system tray of your computer. If your Windows user account does not have admin access, the installer may fail.

TIP  For information about troubleshooting any issues with the Datto RMM Agent, refer to Troubleshooting Datto RMM.

  1. Download the Datto RMM Agent as described in Install the Agent on Windows and save or copy the file to the server.
  2. Log in to the server as Administrator.
  3. In the server command line, navigate to the directory that the Agent installation file has been saved to.
  4. Invoke the name of the Agent installer (for example, agent.exe) to install the Agent.

Occasionally, the fastest way to resolve certain problems with the Agent is to fully remove it from the device and then reinstall it. However, many issues can be traced back to the .NET Framework itself. Therefore, we recommend that you first run a ComStore component on the device to resolve any .NET Framework issues before uninstalling and reinstalling the Agent.

  1. Download the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool component from the ComStore, and run it on the device you are experiencing an issue with.
    For information on how to search for and download a component, refer to ComStore.
    For information on how to deploy a component, refer to Scheduled jobs.
    If this step has not solved the issue, go to step 2.
  2. Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Apps & Features.
  3. Select the Datto RMM application and click Uninstall. The application will disappear from the list of programs.
  4. Delete the following directories on the device:

  5. The Agent has now been fully removed from your device, and you can reinstall it.
