FAQ: Committed Minimum Quantity (CMQ) Billing
Effective December 2025, Kaseya is ending its high watermark pricing policy for Datto RMM and will transition to a committed minimum quantity and variable consumption policy. Changes will occur in the UI on November 8. 2025. For more details on this and other affected products, refer our this press release.
With this update, billing will be based on your committed minimum quantity (CMQ) of licenses, or your calculated license usage (whichever is higher). The Licensing page will be updated to reflect this change.
NOTE At a later date, the Licensing page will display the fixed monthly billing date, along with a chart of the past 90 days of licensing history. Admins will be notified via in-app banners one week prior to billing.
IMPORTANT If you are a Kaseya 365 customer and are only allocated Kaseya 365 Endpoint licenses, then you will not be able to automatically add licenses above your committed quantity, as variable consumption does not apply to Kaseya 365 Endpoint licenses. If this applies to your account and you want to update it so you can use variable consumption, please reach out to your Account Manager.
Questions:
The UI will be updated on November 8th, 2025, and the changes to billing will apply starting with your December 1st, 2025 invoice.
Yes, in certain situations you will see a change to your invoice. You may see an increase in your invoiced amount if any of the following situations apply:
- You were using the 10% buffer: Any licenses being used over your monthly contracted rate will now be billed.
- You were using licenses in excess of your commitments:
- Kaseya 365 previously permitted unlimited Datto RMM licenses at no charge. These will now be billed.
- Advanced Software Management and Ransomware Detection previously had no limits, and no billing for usage above limits. These will now be billed.
To learn how to reduce your license usage if needed, refer to FAQ: Committed Minimum Quantity (CMQ) Billing
Committed Minimum Quantity billing applies to Datto RMM, Advanced Software Management, and Ransomware Detection licenses. Kaseya 365 Endpoint licenses are not affected. For more details, refer to FAQ: Committed Minimum Quantity (CMQ) Billing
No, your rate will not change, regardless of the number of licenses you have when we move to CMQ billing. Please talk with your Account Manager if you want to discuss any changes to your rate, such as potential volume discounts.
Starting December 1, 2025, your monthly license usage will be calculated using the license count on the last day of the previous month.
EXAMPLE If you have a committed minimum quantity of 200 licenses, and are utilizing 205 licenses on November 30th, 2025, then your bill would be for 205 licenses, invoiced on December 1st, 2025
EXAMPLE If you have a committed minimum quantity of 200 licenses, and you are only using 195 of them on Dec 31st, 2025, you will be billed for your committed minimum quantity of 200 licenses on January 1st, 2026.
If you are using more than your committed minimum quantity of licenses, then you will be charged for licenses used over that limit.
If you want to reduce your license usage, you will need to make changes based on which type of license you want to reduce:
- Datto RMM licenses: You can reduce your usage of Datto RMM device licenses by deleting devices from Datto RMM that you no longer need to manage. Refer to Deleting a device.
- Advanced Software Management: You can reduce your usage of Advanced Software Management licenses by reducing the number of devices being targeted by software policies using Advanced Software Management. Refer to Advanced Software.
- Ransomware Detection: You can reduce your usage of Ransomware Detection licenses by reducing the number of devices being targeted by endpoint security policies using Ransomware Detection. Refer to Endpoint Security policy.
NOTE There will no longer be a 10% overage buffer, and you will always be billed for your total device usage, if your license usage is over your committed minimum quantity.
No, the selection of license type is automatic.
If there are available Kaseya 365 Endpoint licenses, those will be allocated to new devices first. If not, then any available Datto RMM licenses will be consumed. If there are no available licenses of either type, then the device will count towards variable usage.
NOTE Devices using standalone Ransomware Detection in Datto RMM will not consume Kaseya 365 Endpoint licenses. Devices using Datto EDR will consume Kaseya 365 Endpoint Licenses. For a breakdown on the differences between these products, refer to our overviews on Datto EDR and Ransomware Detection.
If you find that you are unable to onboard more devices in to Datto RMM, this is most likely because you have only been allocated Kaseya 365 Endpoint licenses, which don't support variable consumption ,and there are none available.
To see what licenses you have available, go to Setup > Licenses. From there, you can either access the store or reach our to your Account Manager to add more Kaseya 365 Endpoint licenses, or purchase Datto RMM standalone licenses to enroll in Committed Minimum Quantity billing.
