Deploying the Datto RMM macOS agent with Microsoft Intune

Use Microsoft Intune to install the Datto RMM Agent on managed Mac devices and grant the privacy permissions the agent needs for remote support. Deploying through Intune lets you install and configure many devices at once without visiting each one.

Key Capabilities

  • Install the agent with a shell script. Intune runs the script on each assigned Mac to download and install the Datto RMM Agent.
  • Grant permissions with a Privacy Preferences Policy Control (PPPC) profile. The profile grants Accessibility, Screen Recording, and Full Disk Access permissions to the agent.
  • Approve Accessibility and Local Network permissions on macOS 27 and later. Declarative Device Management (DDM) App Settings prompt people using the devices to approve the permissions.
  • Update an existing profile. Replace the Team ID in a deployed PPPC profile instead of building a new one.

How it works

Deployment has two parts: installing the agent and granting its permissions. First, you upload a shell script to Intune and assign it to Microsoft Entra ID groups. Intune runs the script as root during the next device check-in, which installs the agent. Then you assign a separate profile that grants the permissions. On macOS versions earlier than 27, a PPPC profile grants the permissions silently. On macOS 27 and later, a PPPC profile can no longer configure Accessibility, so you deliver a DDM profile that displays a consent prompt on each device.

NOTE  Test the script on a single Mac first, deploy to a pilot group, verify that the agent checks in, and then expand to production devices.
